proof of the puddin' - color wheel (1966)



i was struck when i found this tune nestled among the usual 60s sunshine pop with beach boys vocals. it sounds like stephen sondheim had a garage-psych band!

but they're just a group of kids from indiana that got a chance to record one single in 1966. this is the flipside of it (side A is here and pretty fun)

r. stevie moore is a fan, and he's put up a little page for the band on his website. if you search for this band you'll also find a note of appreciation from the bandleader's wife, saying that she can't believe that people born after 1967 can listen to this and enjoy it. i love stuff like that. the idea of ordinary people getting together, working on a project, producing something beautiful and fleeting, then raising families while working on their talents on the side; there's nothing greater
